IMPROVING SOILS IN THE TOP END

TOP END SOILS

Top End soils can vary a lot. But the home garden or rural dweller will find all our soils have one thing in common – zero bacteria activity and almost zero essential nutrient!! Often the soil is very compacted.

THE AIM OF OUR SOIL IMPROVING PROGRAM

  • To improve the physical structure of the soil – aeration, drainage.
  • To stimulate essential, beneficial soil bacteria.
  • To provide essential base nutrients necessary for healthy growth.

METHOD

Lawns

Unless you have light sandy loam as a lawn base you will need to bring in top soil to provide a lawn base. Choose a sandy loam. If you have an existing lawn with a poor soil use Tropigro Claybreaker at the rate of 500 grams to one kilo per square metre. Tropigro Claybreaker will open up your soil and get bacteria working. Drainage Improves.

Gardens

There’s no benefit from treating your entire block of land. It’s better to treat planting holes and garden beds as you create them. You can also improve the soil around existing plants.

Planting Holes

Tropigro Claybreaker is used at the rate of 1 kilo in the base of planting holes (plant out of a 200mm pot) with a further 1 kilo around the water dish after planting.

If your soil is really poor you can mix 50% Thunderpeat into the soil used to backfill the planting hole.

Garden Beds

Garden beds for shrubs and trees – use planting hole treatment method.

Garden beds for flowers and vegetables – incorporate Tropigro Fastpeat or Thunderpeat into your soil so that 50% of the top 150mm (6") is peat. Then sprinkle Tropigro Claybreaker at a rate of 1 kilo per m2 of garden bed.
